Kids camp nets $25,000

 |

The Victory Junction Gang Camp in Randleman for seriously ill youngsters, part of a network of camps backed by actor Paul Newman, netted $25,000 at a Greensboro fundraising event April 12.

The event — hosted by NASCAR drivers Richard and Kyle Petty, their wives, Lynda and Pattie, and U.S. Rep. Howard Coble — drew 150 people and was held at the A.M. Scales estate, the historic home of technology entrepreneur Greg Frisby.

Construction on the camp, scheduled to open in June 2004, begins in August.

Pattie and Kyle Petty founded the camp to honor their son, Adam, who was killed in a racing accident in May 2000. His grandparents, Richard and Lynda Petty, donated land for the camp.
