Jewish women form fund

 |

By Todd Cohen

Six women have contributed $35,000 and launched a Jewish Women’s Foundation of Raleigh-Cary to support Jewish woman and children in Wake County.

The new foundation, an affiliate of the Jewish Community Foundation, will work with Dick Buckman, director of the community foundation, to find potential members.

Officers are Elaine Sandman, president; Shila Baer, vice president; and Eileen Schwartz; treasurer.

The five-year-old community foundation, a division of the Raleigh-Cary Jewish Federation, has generated about $500,000 in assets from 15 donors, says Buckman.

The new fund, he says, joins an informal network of 21 Jewish women’s foundations in the U.S. and Canada with more than $20 million in combined assets that have been formed in recent years.
