  • The Center for Effective Philanthropy has elected Joel L. Fleishman, senior advisor to The Atlantic Philanthropies and director of the Sam and Ronnie Heyman Center for Ethics, Public Policy and the Professions at the Terry Sanford Institute of Public Policy at Duke University to its Board of Directors. The Center for Effective Philanthropy is a nonprofit research and educational organization whose mission is to provide foundation executives and trustees the management and governance tools needed to define, assess, and improve overall foundation performance.
  • Janet Boyd, President of Charities Aid Foundation America has named Susan K. E. Saxon-Harrold as its new Chief Executive Officer. In this capacity she will lead CAFAmerica’s efforts to expand its promotion and facilitation of global philanthropy via donor advised funds and philanthropic advisory services. CAFAmerica is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote and facilitate global philanthropy. CAFAmerica provides donor advised funds, international giving solutions and philanthropic advice that remove obstacles to international giving. It enables individual and corporate donors, and family and community foundations to add value to their generosity by bringing them together with non-US charitable organizations. Since 1995 it has distributed over $34 million to organizations in 64 countries. CAFAmerica is affiliated with the Charities Aid Foundation international network.
  • Independent Sector has named Harris Wofford, a lifelong advocate for citizen service, as the 2002 recipient of the John W. Gardner Leadership Award. Mr. Wofford will receive the award and $10,000 at Independent Sector’s annual conference on October 28 in Cleveland, Ohio. The John W. Gardner Leadership Award honors Harris Wofford for his commitment to public service. Mr Wofford has dedicated his life to the goal of making citizen service a common expectation and experience for all Americans.
