Triangle Y begins drive

 |

By Todd Cohen

RALEIGH, N.C. — In its first annual fund drive since it was formed this year through the merger of the YMCAs in Durham and Raleigh, the YMCA of the Triangle has teamed up with the Garner Road Family YMCA to raise $2.4 million.

Last year, before the merger, all three organizations combined their annual drives for the first time ever and nearly met their combined goal of $2.4 million, with the Capital Area YMCA in Raleigh raising nearly $2.1 million, exceeding its $2.01 million goal.

Funds raised in the drive provide programs and financial assistance for more than 7,000 people who otherwise could not afford to participate in the Y.

The campaign, to kickoff Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Embassy Suites in Cary, will be chaired for the second straight year by Jim Goodmon, president and CEO of Capitol Broadcasting Co. Inc.
