Firefighters tribute in works

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A fund drive is underway to raise $40,000 to $45,000 to create a bronze monument to firefighters and install it at Station One at 1514 N. Church St. in Greensboro.

A volunteer group chaired by Tracey Simmons, vice president of marketing and manager partner for Staub Leadership Consultants, has teamed up with the Firefighter’s Club, a nonprofit group, to raise funds for the project.

“This is a tribute to firefighters past, future and present, honoring them for what they do for our community,” said Simmons, who is the daughter of retired firefighter Butch Burchette and is married to firefighter Mike Simmons.

The effort has raised $10,000 and soon will begin selling $100 bricks for a Walk of Honor at the monument, which has been designed by Greensboro artist Paul Nixon. Construction will begin when the initiative raises half its goal.

For information, call Simmons at 336-282-0282.
