University endowments stable

 |

Despite the sinking stock market, returns on investments for endowments at universities in the Triangle held steady or showed slight declines, The News & Observer in Raleigh reported Oct. 31.

Endowments fell 4.6 percent at N.C. State University in the fiscal year ended June 30 and 3.8 percent at Duke University, while the endowment at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill grew 1 percent, The N&O said.

The universities’ endowment managers diversified their assets into investments ranging from real estate and bonds to hedge funds, the newspaper said.
