United Way chief honored

CHARLOTTE — Gloria Pace King, president of United Way of Central Carolinas, is the winner of the 2002 Pegasus Award sponsored by the Charlotte chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

The award is given each year to an individual outside the public relations profession who demonstrates outstanding public relations skills to help improve communities.

King, who has headed the United Way in Charlotte for eight years, has increased to $37 million from $18 million the funds available to address community needs, and expanded the number of agencies the United Way helps funds and the geographical region it services, the Public Relations Society chapter says.
