  • The ninth annual Ralph Waldo Emerson announced its latest round of prizes awarded for student work of outstanding academic promise at the secondary level. In Spring 2003 the following will receive the awards: Rachel Hines, Olney, Maryland; Jessica Leight, Northampton, Massachusetts, Chrystan Maria Skefos, Memphis, Tennessee; and Robert Patrick Vance Jr., New Orleans, Louisiana. The awards will be given by the Cliosophic Society, the National History Club chapter at St. Mary’s Episcopal School in Memphis, Tennessee on Saturday, April 5, 2003.

  • The Charlotte chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals will meet Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church for its January meeting. The topic will focus on how professionals can optimize their customers for the long-term. Those interested in attending should RSVP by Friday, January 10, 2003.   • The Independent Sector is accepting nominations for its 2003 John W. Gardner Leadership award and the Leadership IS award. The deadline for nominations is January 31, 2003. Nominations should be made without the candidate’s knowledge by filling out a nomination form on the web site and submitting a letter of nomination. The winner will receive $10,000 and an award statuette at the 2003 Independent Sector annual conference November 2-4, 2003 in San Francisco, California.
  • The Raleigh Boys & Girls Clubs will hold an orientation session for new volunteers on Tuesday, January 7, 2003 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at the Raleigh Boys Club, 605 Raleigh Blvd., Raleigh, North Carolina.
