The annual National Smart Start Conference focusing on early childhood development is being held through Jan. 29 at the Koury Convention Center in Greensboro.
The conference, which began Jan. 26 and includes more than 140 workshops, is expected to attract nearly 1,700 child advocates from 39 states, the District of Columbia and the United Kingdom.
No state funds are being used for the event, whose sponsors include the Carnegie Corporation of New York, Park Foundation and David and Lucile Packard Foundation.
North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley will address participants on Jan. 27.
