Department of Education, School of Liberal Arts, John F. Kennedy University, Orinda, Calif., received $24,000 from Bank of America Foundation to promote teacher enhancement and preparation.

Loaves and Fishes, Raleigh, N.C., received $52,400 in pledges – half from employees, half in corporate matching funds – from Winn Dixie Corp.

JJG Foundation Inc., New York, awarded $70,000 to Advocates for Children of New York Inc.

Verizon Foundation, New York, awarded $25,000 to Urban Ministries of Durham, N.C.

Methodist Home for Children, Raleigh, N.C., received four grants for 2003 totaling $633,210 from The Duke Endowment, Charlotte, N.C.

Progress Energy, Raleigh, N.C., awarded $10,000 to N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences, Raleigh, N.C.

Rose Community Foundation, Denver, awarded $8 million in 2002 to organizations supporting health and well-being in Denver.

Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, New York, awarded $3 million to groups for HIV/AIDS research programs.

Women’s Information Network Against Breast Cancer, Covina, Calif., received $24,649 from Vons Stores, San Diego.

Taproot Foundation, San Francisco, awarded $1.02 million to 26 Bay Area nonprofits.

Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Winston-Salem, N.C. received $15,000 from the Winston-Salem Foundation.

The David and Lucile Packard Foundation, Los Altos, Calif., awarded $33,000 to T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood National Technical Assistance Center, Chapel Hill, N.C.

McCormick Tribune Foundation, Chicago awarded $5.7 million to 47 Chicago-based nonprofits.

Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, Kansas City, Mo., awarded $50,000 to College of Business Administration, Florida International University, Miami.

PGE Foundation, Portland, Ore., awarded $973,862 in grants in 2002 to 53 nonprofits throughout Oregon.

Wells Fargo, San Francisco, awarded grants totaling $1 million to the Michael D. Eisner College of Education and the College of Business and Economics, California State University, Northridge, Calif.

The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, Chicago, is giving:

*$1.3 million to Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, Chicago.

*$3.9 million over three years to the School of Law, University of Virginia, Charlottesville.

*$1.5 million to the Medical School, Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H.

*Six grants totaling $3.2 million to juvenile justice systems throughout the U.S.

National Education Association, Washington, D.C., awarded 12 grants totaling $5,000 to 12 student-led programs throughout the U.S.

University of Wisconsin at Madison received $3.6 million grant over four years from Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, Flint, Mich.

New York Life Foundation, New York, awarded $750,000 to Trust for Public Land, New York.

Metropolitan Career Center, Philadelphia, received $20,000 from The ACE INA Foundation, Philadelphia.

Healthcare Georgia Foundation, Atlanta, awarded $3.5 million to 26 groups in Georgia.

Rose Community Foundation, Denver, and Allied Jewish Federation of Colorado, Boulder, created endowment initiative that raised $19 million for 19 Jewish groups in Colorado.

Goodnight Education Foundation, Cary, N.C., awarded $10,000 to Cary Visual Art, Cary, N.C.

Lutheran Family Services in the Carolinas, Raleigh, N.C. received $25,000 from Wachovia Foundation, Winston-Salem, N.C., and $100,000 from The Duke Endowment, Charlotte, N.C.

The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, Winston-Salem, N.C., awarded $100,000 to AIDS Community Residence Association, Durham, N.C.

The Stewards Fund, Raleigh, N.C. awarded $70,000 in 2002 to Loaves and Fishes Inc., Raleigh, N.C.
