RALEIGH, N.C. — Methodist Child Development Center, housed in Pullen Memorial Baptist Church on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh since 1974, has launched a $1.5 million fund drive to finance a new center between Western Boulevard and the Centennial Campus at N.C. State University.
The drive raised $235,000 in its quiet phase last year, most of it from Capitol Broadcasting Co. Inc. and Pullen Memorial Baptist, says Cindy Drew, the center’s director.
Capitol Broadcasting and the Catholic Diocese are donating the use of land for the 11,000-square-foot center, which will serve up to 131 youngsters and is expected to open early in 2004.
U.S. Sen. John Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth, are honorary co-chairs for the drive. Three of their four children were among more than 2,000 who have attended Method Child Development since it was formed in 1969.
