WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Mary Fant Donnan, a program officer at the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation in Winston-Salem, is one of 63 emerging leaders from 18 states awarded a Marshall Memorial Fellowship by the German Marshall Fund for three weeks of study in Europe this spring.
Donnan will study workforce development strategy, including the roles of guilds, government and business in shaping apprenticeships, and the roles of government, business, philanthropy in human and social services, and the degree to which citizens are involved in civic work.
Her fellowship will include stops in Brussels, Amsterdam, Rome, Bucharest and Paris.
Donnan joined the foundation in 2001 after serving as director of research and policy for the state Department of Labor, and as director of development at the N.C. Center for Public Policy Research.
