Two groups that provide online support for nonprofit boards are teaming up to create a one-stop shop to help nonprofits find and keep strong board members.
The partnership combines boardcafe.org, a Web and email service that delivers news, ideas and resources for board members, with boardnetusa.org, a Web site that matches board candidates with boards looking for new members.
“We’re really focusing on developing a synergy between board placement and supporting board members,” says Ken Kurtzig, special projects manager CompassPoint Nonprofit Services, a nonprofit consulting firm in San Francisco and San Jose that operates Board Café.
Board Café, which is available on CompassPoint’s Web site at compasspoint.org and has 25,000 email subscribers, now will link to the boardnetUSA matching service of The Volunteer Consulting Group in New York City.
Launched in January 2002 after a year of testing, boardnetUSA had 1,300 active boards and 3,500 active candidates at the end of March.
“Many Board Café readers learn how to develop boards and the type of people they need, but don’t have easy access to connect with those types of individuals,” says Todd Day, director of national programs for boardnetUSA.
And when boards and individuals use boardnetUSA to hook up with one another, he said, “there’s another level of education or understanding of the nature of board service that Board Café can assist with.”
