Hospital gives, receives

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Forsyth Medical Center has given $50,000 to the Winston-Salem office of the Local Initiatives Support Corp., a national nonprofit based in New York City that provides technical and financial support to community development corporations.

LISC will match the grant, which will be used to boost growth in neighborhoods in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County.,

Forsyth Medical Center also is getting nearly $300,000 over three years from The Duke Endowment in Charlotte to strengthen its prenatal services to Hispanic woman and work with expectant mothers before they and their babies experience health problems.

The first year’s installment of the grant, more than $105,000, will be used to help overcome the language gap between mothers and caregivers.
