WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and Western North Carolina is set to kick off its annual Stars of Light holiday drive.

The goal for the drive, including separate campaigns in the Triad, mountains and Charlotte area, is $500,000.

The individual campaigns aim to raise $120,000 each in the Triad and Asheville area, and $360,000 in the Charlotte area, says Chris Gaydos, a fourth-year medical student at Wake Forest University School of Medicine who chairs the Triad drive.

The Triad drive, which last year raised $60,000, will feature kickoff parties Dec. 4 at the Millenium Center in Winston-Salem and Dec. 5 at Greene Street Bar in Greensboro, and a two-day radio-thon Dec. 10 and 17 on Oldies 93 FM.

The foundation, which serves 51 counties in central and western North Carolina and in the fiscal year ended Aug. 31 granted 143 wishes for children with serious illnesses, also is looking for corporate sponsors. Sponsors will receive a three-foot Make-A-Wish lighted star, and will be promoted on Oldies 93.

For information, call Shannon Holt, Triad regional director, at 336-665-3668.
