Foundation awards grants

Winston-Salem Foundation awards more than $2.2 million in 2003.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Winston-Salem Foundation in 2003 has awarded 173 discretionary grants totaling more than $2.2 million, including 59 grants totaling over $1.1 million it awarded in its latest round of grants.

Two of those grants were made from the foundation’s ECHO Fund, which is designed to support efforts to build “social capital” by bridging gaps of race and ethnicity.

One ECHO grant, for $15,000, will support the Welcome Table, a multicultural outreach program of Green Street Methodist Church.

The other, for $6,000, will support the Garden Club Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County in its efforts to expand Winston Grows, its community gardens program.
