GREENSBORO, N.C. [05.05.04] — Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro, recently named Affiliate of the Year by Habitat for Humanity International for affiliates serving populations of 50,000 to 250,000, is building four new houses, thanks to a handful of efforts.

An initiative known as Women Build – The Power of the Purse, will include a framing and finishing blitz that will kick off June 3 and build two homes over three weeks.

The women’s initiative, Habitat’s third, featured a training “bazaar” in March that attracted nearly 200 women and included sessions led by female construction professionals and Habitat’s four full-time female Americorps members.

A third Habitat house is being built by a collaboration involving UBS-PaineWebber and WFMY News 2, which is airing promotions and news reports about the construction project.

And RF Micro Devices, which kicked off the “100 houses in 1,000 days” campaign with its second house last year, has begun construction of its third Habitat House.

Habitat’s Greensboro affiliate, which was founded in 1987 and has built 225 homes in Greensboro and another 225 in Honduras, two years ago launched a campaign to build 100 houses in 1,000 days.

So far, Habitat has completed 57 of those houses, with another 12 under construction.
