Gearing up

United Way of Lee County names executive director.

SANFORD, N.C. [07.01.04] — While she still is developing a strategy and getting to know board members, member agencies and local employers, the new executive director of United Way of Lee County is starting to gear up for this year’s annual drive, and aims to involve a growing number of businesses in the drive.

“We like to target the main industries in Lee County and get as many of our main employers on board as possible,” says Terri Taylor, a graduate of N.C. Central University who succeeded Deborah Crews as executive director April 26 after working five years as aging program administrator for the Triangle J Council of Governments, serving Chatham, Durham, Johnson, Lee, Moore, Orange and Wake counties.

Taylor, for example, plans soon to invite local business executives to a breakfast to meet with her and board members, and also will be visiting United Way’s member agencies.

United Way has not yet named a chair or set a goal for this year’s drive, which kicks off late August.
