Summer grants

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Cumberland Community Foundation is giving a total of $49,193 in grants of up to $2,000 each to 23 charitable and faith-based organizations for summer programs for low-income and underserved children.

The foundation budgeted $20,000 from its unrestricted funds for its  “Summertime Kids” program, and donor advisors provided the remainder in additional grants.

That total is the highest the foundation has donated to the program since it was launched 14 years ago.

Programs receiving grants range from nature, drama and crafts camps to an enrichment program for children with developmental or physical disabilities, a gang-resistance program and several focused on bridging the educational gap for minority students.
