Margaret Fletcher, 94

Margaret Fletcher, widow of A.J. Fletcher, founder and president of Capitol Broadcasting Company who created the A.J. Fletcher Foundation, died Nov. 10.

Mrs. Fletcher, who was 94, worked tirelessly in the community.

She was most noted for her service on the board of the A.J. Fletcher Foundation, which publishes the Philanthropy Journal.

She was an active member of the Hayes Barton Baptist Church and of Raleigh’s St. Luke’s Circle, which provides affordable housing for elderly women.

Born Dec. 26, 1909, Margaret Harrington was a lifelong resident of Raleigh.

She graduated from St. Mary’s College and for many years worked for the U.S. Geological Survey Office.

She and A.J. Fletcher were married from 1968 until his death in 1979.

At the time of her death, she lived at the Stewart Health Center at Springmoor in North Raleigh.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m. at Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh.

The family will receive friends at the church at 1 p.m.

Mrs. Fletcher will have a private burial.
