WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Lowes Foods in Winston-Salem has launched its 10 annual Friends Feeding Friends food drive at all its stores to benefit Second Harvest Food Banks and their member agencies in North Carolina and Virginia.

The drive, which continues through Dec. 31 and last year supplied 600,000 pounds of food, aims to collect 650,000 pounds this year with the help of schools, community groups and customers.

The drive, which has supplied 2.25 million pounds in its first nine years, is the largest food drive conducted for the Winston-Salem-based Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina, and for the Raleigh-based Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.
