Ridings to step down as president of Council on Foundations.
Dorothy S. Ridings will retire in 2005 as president of the Council on Foundations in Washington, D.C., after nine years heading the national membership association.
Ridings, 65, a former newspaper publisher, editor and reporter who also served as president of the League of Women Voters, will continue working under the council names her successor.
Under Ridings, the council developed a new strategic plan, began a $3 million initiative to help foundations strengthen their practices, changed its governance structure and created a six-month budget reserve.
More than 2,000 grantmaking foundations and corporations are members of the council, which aims to promote and improve responsible and effective philanthropy.
