Arts group exceeds goal

 |

The Arts & Science Council in Charlotte exceeded its annual fund drive goal, raising $10,884,948, almost 5 percent more than in its 2004 drive.

The six-week campaign was chaired by Anna Nelson Spangler, president of C.D. Spangler Construction, and Thomas C. Nelson, president of National Gypsum.

More than 1,300 volunteers participated in drive, the council says, and more than 600 companies participated, as well as local government, schools and nonprofits.

Annual fund dollars support 26 cultural groups affiliated with the council, as well as arts education and individual artists and projects throughout the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area.

Eighty-five cents of each dollar raised will be used to support cultural activities in the community, the group says.
