Efficiency, effectiveness not the same

 |

To the editor,

This is an addendum to “Online grantmaking” [Philanthropy Journal, 06.14.05].

There is a difference between efficiency and effectiveness.

A foundation might use online forms and communications in order to make better use of staff time, including eliminating telephone contact.

The chance of an off-target proposal would increase, wasting the proposal writer’s and examiner’s time, unless there be a mandatory provision for an online letter of inquiry to save each time.
