The Panel on the Nonprofit Sector is seeking comments from the nonprofit community on recommendations drafted for inclusion in a special supplement to the Senate Finance Committee.
The panel was convened by Independent Sector, a Washington, D.C.-based coalition of nonprofits, at the urging of the Senate Finance Committee, which is considering increased regulation of the sector.
The panel delivered its final report, including more than 120 recommendations, to the committee in June and will submit additional recommendations in October after considering public input.
The nine additional draft recommendations cover topics such as regulation of charitable solicitations, international grantmaking and prudent investor rules.
Headed by Diana Aviv, president of Independent Sector, the panel will be considering further recommendations to the committee through the end of the year, including self-regulation by the sector and uniform financial standards and reports.
The comment period closes Friday, September 30.
