Healing Place to open women’s facility

 |

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Healing Place of Wake County will open its new $4.5 million, 88-bed facility for women and children on Jan. 15.

The opening had been delayed until next spring because of a $550,000 shortfall that resulted mainly when two big gifts fell through, and after giving by small donors fell in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

But a gift from Matthew Szulik, chairman and CEO at Red Hat, and his wife, Kyle Szulik, helped plug the gap, says Allen Reep, development director.

The gift, honoring Kyle Szulik’s mother, Mary Ann McKinney, generated contributions from dozens of other donors, Reep says.

The new facility will open on the fifth anniversary of the opening of the agency’s 180-bed facility for men.
