CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Kathy Higgins, vice president of community relations for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina has been named president of the Chapel Hill-based insurer’s foundation.
She succeeds Bob Greczyn, who will continue to chair the foundation’s board.
Higgins, who joined the nonprofit insurer in 1987 and was promoted to vice president in July, will continue to lead its community involvement efforts.
She helped create the foundation five years ago, has served as its vice president and vice chairman of its board, and helped develop some of its signature programs, including the Be Active Kids initiative for preschoolers and the Breast Health Project.
Since its creation, the foundation has granted more than $16 million in the areas of expanding healthcare access to the under- and uninsured, eradicating racial and ethnic health disparities, encouraging physical activity and providing health education and screenings.
