Getty Trust on probation

 |

The Council on Foundations has place the J. Paul Getty Trust on probation from Council membership for 60 days until more information is available on allegations of misconduct by the funder.

The Los Angeles-based trust has been accused in media accounts of misuse of foundation assets, excessive entertainment and travel expenses, inappropriate CEO compensation, potential self-dealing, and irregularities in the sale of a property.

In accordance with the council’s ethics process, which applies to any member accused of misconduct, an outside panel is reviewing the charges and a board committee will make the final decision.

The council has asked the trust to submit additional information by the end of January to assist the council in making a final decision about membership status.
