Triangle United Way raises $10.6 million

 |

The Triangle United Way raised a total of $10.6 million in undesignated funds to address community issues, shy of its $11 million goal for 2005.

Overall, the campaign raised more than $18 million, with undesignated gifts accounting for 59 percent of giving, down from 60 percent last year.

With a week left in the campaign, several companies responded to a last-minute request to close a $500,000 shortfall, including RTI International, Bayer CropScience and Quintiles.

GlaxoSmithKline was the largest single contributor to the fund, giving a total of $860,000, including the company’s dollar-for-dollar match of employee donations.
