The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation launched a new grants program designed to help nonprofits and government agencies prepare to aid vulnerable people during natural disasters and other crises.
The Emergency Preparedness Grant Program will award one-time grants of up to $50,000 to develop or improve emergency preparedness programs for low-income, elderly, non-English-speaking, or chronically-ill populations.
Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath prompted the creation of the program and a focus on crisis planning nationwide.
The program also recognizes the state’s large proportion of vulnerable people who could be affected by weather-related emergencies.
The foundation is accepting applications in this grant category until March 3. For information and to apply, visit website.
