UNC-Chapel Hill posts record

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill raised $241.2 million in cash and assets this year, more than in any previous year, the school said in a statement.

The banner year helped push pledges to the university’s Carolina First Campaign to $1.81 billion, just shy of the $2 billion goal it aims to reach by the end of 2007.

Pledges to the campaign in the fiscal year that ended June 30 totaled $287.2 million and will fund 29 endowed professorships and 98 scholarships and fellowships.

Since the campaign’s launch, alumni have contributed $678.3 million and businesses and foundation have donated $710 million, the school says.
