News reports on Legal Services distorted

 |

To the editor,

A distorted picture of Legal Services Corp.’s administrative expenditures is being conveyed by two news stories — by the Associated Press and CBS News.

Legal Services has issued a proper and detailed response to the issues raised in the articles and has posted it on its website.

Please note that funds for Legal Services “field” programs are appropriated separately from funds for Legal Services’ Washington, D.C., office that include administration and board of directors expenses.

Anyone evenly slightly concerned about the issues raised in those articles should read the Legal Services response and realize that there is no merit to the accusations.

It is a shame that these reports are attacking an organization that is solely dedicated to helping low-income people with their legal problems.
