United Ways seeks five million volunteers

 |

United Way of America has pledged to recruit five million volunteers worldwide over the next five years to help alleviate poverty and encourage economic empowerment.

The charity’s commitment will connect volunteers to community-based groups that address issues in line with the goals of the Clinton Global Initiative, says Brian Gallagher, United Way president and CEO.

The group plans to use its Volunteer Solutions software to recruit volunteers and match them with opportunities in their communities that meet their interests.

The software will work with local United Way affiliates across the U.S. and with other with other community partners.

“Volunteerism is an essential element of the solution and United Way is in the right position to mobilize people and other resources to meet the long-term needs of communities all over the world,” Gallagher says.
