Ludwig Fund creates cancer-research centers

 |

The Ludwig Fund, a foundation created by billionaire Daniel K. Ludwig before his death, announced plans to award $20 million each to six U.S. institutions for cancer research.

The grants will be used to create Ludwig Centers at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Medical School, Johns Hopkins University’s Kimmel Cancer Center, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University and The University of Chicago.

The gift also includes stock in a New York real-estate holding company, and further grants will be distributed from the fund over the next six years to ensure that each center gets $2 million in research funds annually.
