Duke pledges $1 million to Charlotte YMCA

 |

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Duke Energy Foundation announced plans to donate $1 million to the YMCA of Greater Charlotte during a donor appreciation event Nov. 28.

The gift, announced as a surprise by Jim Rogers, Duke Energy president and CEO, will fund construction of a new program center at the YMCA’s Camp Thunderbird, located at Lake Wylie.

The 70-year-old overnight camp caters to children primarily from the Charlotte area, regardless of ability to pay.
