2006 holiday giving strong

 |

Network for Good, the largest nonprofit site for charitable giving, says donors were busy during the 2006 holiday season.

The company processed an average over $100,000 in donations each day in early December and expected a spike of up to $2 million per day by the final days of the month.

Though 40 percent of annual giving occurs in December alone, Network for Good says, it has seen an increase in year-round giving.

The portal has processed more than $100 million in donations for more than 23,000 charities since its founding in 2002, and more than one million U.S. nonprofits are registered to receive donations through the website.

Individual fundraisers at Network for Good reported a particularly large growth spurt this holiday season.

That’s due in part to a new feature from the company that facilitates fundraising through personal blogs and websites, which together brought in a total of $43,000 from donors by late December, the group says.
