Florida hospital to expand academic center

 |

In what is being called the largest gift ever made to a community hospital, the Schmidt Family Foundation donated $75 million to the Boca Raton Community Hospital.

The gift will finance the creation of a new academic medical center, an undertaking by the hospital, Florida Atlantic University and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

John Reiling, an expert in healthcare-safety design, will head up the facility’s planning, design and construction.

The first new academic medical center in the U.S. in almost a decade, the hospital will be completed in 2011 and will contain 530 private patient rooms.
