*Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation awarded $10 million gift to Duke University to support need-based scholarships for undergraduates and scholarships for business students.

* Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Coalition of North Carolina partnered with Public Welfare Foundation to award Comprehensive Community of Change SPEAK UP grants to 11 organizations focusing on teen pregnancy prevention and teen parenting.

* Communities In Schools of Wake County received $5,000 from Food Lion Charitable Foundation to support End of Grade Academy, allowing Wake students to spend extra time practicing test questions with a tutor or mentor.

* State of North Carolina awarded $18.5 million in U.S. Housing and Urban Development grants to state agencies with projects assisting homeless population.
