Skinner lauded for land conservation

DURHAM, N.C. – Katherine Skinner, a 20-year veteran of land conservation in North Carolina, was recognized by the North Carolina Wildlife Federation for her success in protecting 670,000 acres of land in the state.

Skinner, executive director of North Carolina chapter of the Nature Conservancy, was named the Governor’s 2006 Conservationist of the Year by the federation, in part for her agency’s recent efforts to protect 76,500 acres in eastern North Carolina.

The award, created in 1958, is the highest bestowed by the North Carolina Wildlife Federation.
