Arts Council tops annual fund goal

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Arts and Science Council raised more than $11.5 million during its 2007 annual fund drive, exceeding its goal of $11.2 million.

More than 800 local organizations, including large corporations, small business, nonprofits and schools, participated in the six-week effort to raise funds to support cultural organizations in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area.

The strong results were driven in part by a year-over-year tripling in the number of online donors, who together gave more than $1 million to the 2007 drive.

During the campaign, the Council launched a new cultural web portal,, which serves as a clearinghouse of cultural events in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area.

The 2007 annual drive was led by a cabinet of local corporate and community leaders and was chaired by Claude C. Lilly, dean of the Belk College of Business at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
