Volunteers vitally important

 |

To the editor,

Great article for National Volunteer Week [“Nonprofits must engage volunteers,” 04.23.07].

I couldn’t agree with you more that volunteers are vitally important. They truly are the heart of America.

Without the expertise and time of our close to 300 volunteers, hundreds of seniors in our community would be without rides to doctors’ appointments, without social stimulation and support.

Many would lapse into depression and the attendant illnesses that result from being alone and isolated at home.

God bless all the volunteers who contribute to making our nation a land that has compassion for those less fortunate by putting their faith into action.
