RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Joe Freddoso, former head of community relations at Cisco Systems, will become CEO of MCNC effective July 1.
In tapping Freddoso, MCNC, a nonprofit that works to promote technology-based economic development in the state, is getting a leader with deep ties to North Carolina and its technology and education communities.
MCNC is best known for its N.C. Research and Education Network, which provides a private fiber-optic network for local and national educational institutions with the goal of increasing innovation.
Freddoso joins the group after more than seven years at Cisco, most recently as its senior director of community relations, and before that as director of site operations at the company’s RTP location.
His ties to the local educational community include serving as chair of the North Carolina Business Committee for Education, as a member of the executive committee of the North Carolina Public School Forum, and as a member of the board of advisors for the North Carolina New Schools Project.
Freddoso will lead MCNC as it pursues the goal of extending high bandwidth service to students in the state’s elementary, middle and high schools.
