Arizona business school gets $25 million

 |

The College of Business at Northern Arizona University will use a $25 million gift from a local businessman to create scholarships and strengthen its staff and programs.

William A. Franke, a managing partner of Indigo Partners and the former CEO of several Arizona-based companies, including America West Airlines, grew up in Latin America and wants his gift to be used in part to recruit and retain underrepresented and first-generation students.

Based on his instructions, the gift will not be used for bricks and mortar, but will help improve graduates’ written and oral communication skills and support ethics education.

Prior to the gift, Franke had no formal ties to the Flagstaff-based university or e business school, which will change its name to The W.A. Franke College of Business.
