Tech innovators named

 |

Three nonprofit organizations have been crowned by their peers and online voters as premier innovators in using social-web technology for social benefit.

Maplight.org, Miro Open Source Standards Video and the Freecycle Network took top honors and will split half the $100,000 in prize money, with 18 other finalists sharing the remainder.

Winners of the competition, developed by San Francisco-based TechSoup, were named at the annual NetSquared Conference last month after attendees and online voters judged competing projects based on their social benefit, technological innovation and financial sustainability.

The 21 finalists were culled from 152 entries and are eligible for in-kind support from the NetSquared Innovator Support Network, which provides hand-on assistance, resources and mentoring for web development, tech assistance and web-based tools and services.
