Charlotte Habitat gets $1 million, launches drive

 |

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A $1 million boost from local businessman John Crosland Jr. and Crosland LLC is serving to kick-start Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte’s $5 million capital campaign.

Habitat Charlotte will name its facility for Crosland, who is chairman of the Charlotte-based Crosland real estate company, and served as founding board chair of the Habitat affiliate 27 years ago.

The capital campaign is the group’s first and will be used to buy land and generate funds for the construction of affordable homes for purchase by low-income Charlotte-area families.

The affiliate aims to double the number of families it serves over the next three years by growing revenues from its resale stores, boosting sponsorships, increasing land usage and increasing funding from reinvested mortgage payments on new Habitat homes.

The Habitat facility was dedicated in Crosland’s honor on June 12 and renamed the John Crosland Jr. Center for Housing.
