New Bern nonprofits hold shutdown

 |

In an effort to demonstrate to the public the impact nonprofits have on New Bern communities, the town’s charitable sector held a “virtual shutdown” June 6, the Sun Journal reported.

Hosted by the nonprofit council of the New Bern Area Chamber of Commerce, area nonprofits held the one-hour demonstration during lunch as part of nonprofit awareness month.

The goal was to stress to the public how many people depend on the services nonprofits provide, as well as highlight the important role volunteers play in the area.

About 100 people attended the event held at the Craven County Courthouse, the newspaper said.
