Charlotte Scout sells most popcorn in U.S.

 |

Anthony Aldrich III, a 13-year-old Boy Scout in Charlotte, sold $19,458 worth of popcorn during the annual sale for the Mecklenburg County Council in 2006, the most of any scout in the U.S.

Aldrich, a rising ninth-grader at Myers Park International Baccalaureate High School, has held the top spot for Boy Scout popcorn sales in Mecklenburg County during four of the past five years.

His sales effort in 2006 earned him and his family an invitation by the Boy Scouts of America to the organization’s National Annual Meeting in Atlanta May 30-June 1.

Aldrich, a Life Scout in Troop 107, which is sponsored by University Park Baptist Church, spoke at a popcorn sales seminar at the annual meeting.

The Mecklenburg County Council, which serves over 17,600 youth, generated over $1 million in total popcorn sales in 2006 for the second straight year, with $28,000 of the total purchased by customers to be shipped to U.S. military troops abroad.
