Homebuilders support Wake Tech

 |

RALEIGH, N.C. – Students attending Wake Technical Community College now will have additional help with tuition thanks to a 10-year, $250,000 commitment from the Homebuilders Association of Raleigh-Wake County.

The association’s investment of $25,000 a year primarily will fund scholarships for students in construction-related trades, including plumbing, heating and air-conditioning, construction management and civil engineering.

Individual students in their first and second years who meet certain academic-achievement criteria will receive scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000.

Up to 5 percent of the association’s yearly contribution can be used to expand the college’s recruitment effort through outreach to students interested in construction trades, and any amount over the annual commitment will go toward an endowment.

The new investment is the college’s largest multi-year scholarship-related pledge and eclipses the homebuilders’ previous donations to the school that have totaled $24,000 since 2002.
