Ford Foundation taps outsider

 |

The Ford Foundation, one of the leading philanthropies in the U.S., has named industry outsider Luis Ubińas as its next president.

Ubińas, 44, leads the West Coast media practice of consulting giant McKinsey & Co., where he has worked for 18 years.

He will succeed Susan Berresford when she steps down in January after 38 years with the foundation, the last 12 as its president.

A South Bronx native and graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Business School, Ubińas has assisted major media, telecom and technology corporations with their strategic and operational issues.

He also has served on several nonprofit boards, including the United Way of the Bay Area and the After School for All Partnership.

The Ford Foundation, based in New York City, has about $11 billion in assets and more than 500 employees.
