Duke raises record $380 million

 |

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University set its second straight fundraising record in fiscal 2007, bringing in more than $380 million, up 11 percent over 2006.

The funds raised, which don’t include pledges, came from about 98,000 donors, 41,000 of which are alumni of the school.

More than $80 million will be directed to scholarships for students, almost half of whom receive financial aid.

The largest single donor to the university was The Duke Endowment, which gave $74.7 million for scholarships, community outreach programs, the school’s service-learning initiative as well as other efforts.

Duke’s annual fund raised a record $26.5 million from about 45,000 alumni, parents and friends of the school.
